Brenda is a New England artist who grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She studied at the Littleton Schools , St Johnsbury Academy,  University of Vermont, and the Lyme Art Association.  Combining her formal schooling with her own "college of observation "  led her to become  an "en plein air" (painting in air) artist .

En plein air painting can be  a very exciting and busy time when one is trying to portray nature with a paint brush.  Often times one has to contend with the breeze playing with grassland leaves or the wind blowing the canvas and easel around .. The  sun comes into play as well. It can be hot and melting the oil paints , shining on the wrong place  or warming an artist up in the late fall or early spring. The clouds have  their way of making a statement.  They can be fast moving , casting a dark shadow causing an artist to wonder how to find the color, or the dark cloud signaling rain is on its way . Rain  can be interesting as well .Often times the color is so beautiful in nature  during the rain that one just has to paint  under an umbrella.  Brenda  enjoys these situations and lets nature set the rhythm of her painting.
